Melbourne, Jan 20 (IBNS): After his innings in the first ODI, former skipper MS Dhoni was earning criticisms from some sections of critics for playing a slow knock but then in the remaining two matches he reemerged as the old savior for the country by helping the nation beat the hosts and win the bilateral series for the first time on Australian soil.

Now, the International Cricket Council also recognised Dhoni's performance with the willow in the series and set his image as its Twitter and Facebook cover photos.

Dhoni, with three crucial half-centuries scored in the ODI series and even in a situation when his nation needed him to perform strongly, clinched the Man of the Series title.

With two successive match-winning innings, Dhoni scored 193 runs in the three-match ODI series.

Despite not matching up to his old charismatic charm with the willow, 2011 World Cup winning skipper Dhoni scored an unbeaten 87 runs in the third ODI at Melbourne which decided the fate of the series.

Dhoni, who has played 335 ODI matches so far, will now serve the nation in the limited overs series in New Zealand. He is then expected to play the World Cup this year and play crucial role both as a batsman and behind the stumps. This will be the first time since 2007 when Dhoni will bne playing the showpiece cricket tournament as a cricketer and not as a skipper.

In 2015, India had played the semi-finals of the tournament under his leadership.

Australia had won the World Cu in 2015.

Dhoni sets Twitter on fire:

Meanwhile, Twitter is buzzing with congratulatory messages after ICC picked up his photo for the Twitter cover page.

One Om Kumar tweeted: "Glad to see @ICC uploaded it's cover as @msdhoni pic."

Another Priyanshu posted: "When you wake up in the morning and see something like this on @ICC cover photo,@msdhoni is love #truemsdian #MSDhoni #ms."

Twitter user Rajashree remarked: "The best cover photos @ICC and @cricketworldcup @msdhoni."

Nilanjan, a Twitter user, appreciated ICC and said: "@ICC official FB Page and Twitter handle uploaded @msdhoni pic as their cover pic ."
