Karachi, Aug 11 (IBNS): Bidding adieu to the cricketing fraternity, former Pakistani cricketer and batting legend Hanif Mohammad passed away at the Aga Khan Hospital on Thursday, reports said.

Mohammad was 81 years old.

He was born on Dec 21, 1934 and made his debut in 1952.

Mohammad donned the Pakistani cap in 55 Test matches, in a career spanning 17 years.

At an average of 43.98 runs per match, his batting average was exceptional, considering the era he played in.

He scored 12 hundreds and was one of the best batsman to have hailed from his country.

The octogenarian was suffering from lung cancer and had undergone surgery in 2013.

As a cricketer, Hanif was a complete package, as he was ambidextrous and could bowl with both his arms.

In addition to his exploits with the bat and the ball, Hanif also donned the gloves and kept wickets for his side in competitive games.

Hanif Mohammad was also instrumental in his nation achieving Test status.
