Ex- Australian opening batsman Matthew Hayden fractures spine in surfinf accident
Sydney, Oct 8 (IBNS): Former Australian opener Matthew Hayden has suffered a head and spinal injuries while surfing on a family holiday in Queensland, media reports said.
Hayden, who is considered as one of the best openers to play for Australia in the history of the game, said he was surfing with his son Josh off Stradbroke Island on Friday before being hurt in an apparent spill and taken to hospital for scans.
" Hayden fractured the C6 vertebrae in his spine and also tore theC5 and C4 ligaments in his neck, as well as suffering a bloodied forehead," reported The Guardian.
Hayden posted an image of himself on Instagram and captioned it as: " Ok. Last attention seeking post I promise. Just wanted to say a big thank you to all our mates on Straddie who have been so supportive.✅ðŸ„ðŸ½â™‚ï¸ðŸ™ Especially Ben & Sue Kelley for the fast diagnosis with MRI, CT scan. Fractured C6, torn C5,C4 ligaments safe to say I truly have dodged a bullet. Thank you everyone â¤ï¸ On the road to recovery ðŸ„ðŸ½â™‚ï¸ðŸŽ£."
