Cricketer Rahul Dravid declines honorary doctorate from Bangalore University, says he would rather earn it

Bengaluru, Jan 26 (IBNS): Former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid has refused to accept honorary doctorate degree from Bangalore University saying he would rather try to earn it through academic research, media reports said on Thursday.

The University had planned to honour Dravid, popularly called The Wall during his cricketing days, during its 52nd Conovation Ceremony on Friday.

In a release, the University said that Dravid has thanked them for wanting to bestow the honour on him but said he would not be able to accept it.

"He (Dravid) has conveyed that he would try to earn a doctorate degree by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of sports rather than receiving an honorary degree," the release stated.

According to media reports, Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala, who is also the chancellor of the university, had only approved Dravid's name from the three names suggested by the University.
