Colombo Test: Sri Lanka fight back in 2nd innings, post 209/2 at stumps on Day 3

Colombo, Aug 5 (IBNS): Pulling their socks in the second innings, Sri Lankan batsmen posted a decent score of 209/2 at stumps a the end of Day 3, though still following on the mammoth first innings total of India.

Despite being bowled out to just 183 runs, Sri Lanka showed some resilience to avoid the innings defeat against India.

Being forced to follow on the total of 622-9 dec. by India, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis scored 92 and 110 respectively to help Sri Lanka to carry on the fight in the second innings.

Karunaratne and Mendis shared a huge partnership of 191 runs for the second wicket.

Though Mendis was dismissed towards the end of the day, Karunaratne is still at the crease with Malinda Pushpakumara.

Hardik Pandya and Umesh Yadav shared two wickets each in the second innings for India.

Early in the day,  Sri Lanka was bowled out to just 183 with a trail of 439 runs.

Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the star bowler for India as he picked up five wickets for 69 in 16.4 overs.

Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja shared two wickets each for India.

Sri Lanka were miserable with the bat in the first innings. Niroshan Dickwella was the only Sri Lankan batsman to score a fifty.

Sri Lanka is still 230 runs behind India in the second innings.

India lead the three-match test series 1-0.
