Chung Hyeon creates history, reaches Australian Open semi-final for first time
Melbourne, Jan 24 (IBNS): South Korea's Chung Hyeon continued his strong run at the ongoing Australian Open men's singles event as he cruised to the semi-final by registering string-win over American Tennys Sandgren.
He is the first South Korean Tennis star to reach the semi-final of the GrandSlam.
Chung defeated his opponent in the quarter-final by 6-4 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 on Rod Laver Arena.
He has also become the youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist for eight years.
In the semi-final clash, he will face the winner of the match between Roger Federer or Tomas Berdych.
“I think all the people is watching Australian Open now because we make history in Korea,” Chung told the tournament website.
The 21-year-old South Korea said he has defeated some top names in the tournament so far.
He ended the run of Serbian Novak Djokovic earlier in the tournament.
