BCCI sacked Virat Kohli as ODI captain after he refused to step down: Reports

Mumbai/IBNS: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has sacked the country's one of the most celebrated cricketers, Virat Kohli, as the One Day International (ODI) captain after its offer to step down was ignored by the 33-year-old, several media reports said.

Kohli's captaincy was already under the scanner after India's miserable performance in the T20 World Cup this year.

Though he had stepped down as the T20 skipper citing his workload, Kohli was supposedly aspiring to continue as a ODI captain.

But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), now run by powerful president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah, had some other plans.

As per reports, Kohli was given 48 hours by the board to step down as the ODI skipper.

After he refused to do so, the BCCI in the 49th hour replaced Kohli with his deputy Rohit Sharma, who is already leading India in the shortest format of cricket, i.e. T20.

In more good news for Sharma, who is appreciated for his leadership skill by the cricket experts, the new white ball captain has been named Kohli's deputy in Tests.
