BCCI chief congratulates Indian team after win against NZ

Mumbai, Sept 26 (IBNS): BCCI President Anurag Thakur on Monday appreciated the Indian team for their performance after they beat New Zealand to win the first match of the series here on Monday.

"Victory by 197 runs! Superb #TeamIndia ! Delighted,gt the news right after Parliamentary IT committee meet :-)," he tweeted.

The BCCI also congratulated the team for scripting the 197 runs victory.

"Congratulations #TeamIndia on winning the Kanpur Test #500thTest @Paytm Test Cricket #INDvNZ," read a tweet posted by the BCCI.

Virat Kohli and his men did the inevitable by winning the first Test match against New Zealand by 197 runs here on Monday, the fifth day of the match.

The New Zealand team were bowled out for 236 runs.

After a four-wicket haul in the first innings, Indian spinning ace Ravichandran Ashwin followed it up with with six wickets in the ensuing innings, to leave the visitors reeling.

Ashwin, who recently reached the 200th Test wicket mark, becoming the second fastest in the world to do so, also picked up his 19th five-wicket haul in Test cricket while registering his 5th 10-wicket haul in a match.

The Kanpur Test gained importance as it was the 500th Test match played by the Indian national team in the history of the game.
