Asian Games: Neeraj Chopra wins gold in men's javelin throw

Jakarta, Aug 27 (IBNS): Making India proud, Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in men's javelin throw on the ninth day of Asian Games on Monday.

Chopra threw with a best of 88.06m.

This is the eighth gold for India in the competition.

On the other hand, Neena Varakil won a silver medal in women's long jump event with a mark of 6.51 m.

Thirty two year-old Sudha Singh won a silver medal in women's 3000m steepchase.

Ayyasamy Dharun added to India's tally of medals by winning silver in 400m hurdles.

Dharun won the silver by running a national record time of 48.96s.

Earlier, Saurav Ghoshal won a bronze medal in Squash men's singles.

Losing to Taiwan's Tai Tzu Ying in the semifinal, Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal settled for a bronze medal on the ninth day of the competition.

Saina won the medal in women's single.

The 28-year-old player lost to her Taiwanese competitor 17-21, 14-21.
