Kanpur/IBNS: Spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin on Monday surpassed legend Harbhajan Singh to become India's third highest wicket taker in Test cricket.

Ashwin attained the third spot clinching 418 wickets, one wicket more than Singh.

Ashwin is now just behind Kapil Dev (434) and Anil Kumble (619).

The frontline Indian bowler achieved the feat on the final day of the first Test between India and New Zealand here.

The match ended in a draw after Kiwi batter Rachin Ravindra held his nerve denying India the last wicket in the match.
