Anushka Sharma is a soft target: Virat Kohli on Farokh Engineer's 'tea' remark

New Delhi/IBNS: Indian skipper Virat Kohli has finally broken his silence on the episode related to his wife Anushka Sharma and former cricketer Farokh Engineer and said the actress is a 'soft target'.

The genesis of the controversy lies in Engineer's statement where he had said the former cricketer saw all that the selectors were doing in the World Cup in England and Wales was fetching "cups of tea" for Anushka. Following the statement, Anushka shared a letter in public asking all people to refrain from dragging her name without proofs in their own opinions.

Virat reacted to the episode and told India Today: "So much has been said about her and so much comes out about her. You have to understand that she is someone who has achieved success at a very high level. She was a superstar even when we met. When these things come out of protocols not being followed and rules being broken, it is not in her nature to do something like that because she understands my profession and I understand her profession. Either of us doesn't interfere in it."

"The value system that she has and her beliefs and the nature she has, it won't allow her to go against rules and protocols. So I don't know why people have wanted to sensationalize stories by taking her name because she's a soft target. We both had been ignoring it for a while," he said.

Clearing air over his statement Farokh Engineer had earlier said that he never intended to demean the Bollywood actress.

Under Virat's leadership, India recently won the Test series against Bangladesh 2-0.
