Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka by 91 runs to knock them out of Asia Cup

Abu Dhabi, Sept 18 (IBNS): At first it was Bangladesh and now Afghanistan who defeated Sri Lanka to knock the former World Champions out of the Asia Cup here on Monday.

After posting 249 all out on the scorecard, Afghanistan bowlers bowled 158 runs to win the brilliantly to bowl out their opponents for 158 runs to register a 91 runs victory in the match.

Chasing a target of 250 runs, Sri Lanka were bundled out for 158 runs in just 41.1 overs.

After losing the match against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka needed a victory on Monday night to keep their chances alive.

The Afghanistan team made another wonderful statement about their arrival on the world of cricket strongly ahead of the World Cup.

Riding on Rahmat Khan (72) and Ihsanullah (45), the Asian side were bowled out for 249 runs in 50 overs.

Thisara Perera shined with the ball for Sri Lanka as he picked up five wickets in the match.

Chasing 250 runs, Sri Lankan batsmen hardly could match against the Afghanistan bowlers who dominated in the game.

Apart from opener Upul Tharanga (36), the rest of the batting line-up collapsed miserably.

Skipper Angelo Mattews contributed just 22 runs with his willow.

Rashid, Nabi, Naib, and Rahman picked up two wickets each for Afghanistan.
