2nd Day: Kohli hits double century, India take command

Antigua, July 23 (IBNS): Charismatic batting by Indian skipper Virat Kohli and a late wicket by pacer Mohammed Shami left India dominating the proceedings at the end of the second day of the first Test against West Indies here on Friday.

Kohli scored 200 runs as he helped India posted 566 for eight declared.

Along with R Ashwin (113), Kohli joined in a  168-run fifth wicket partnership that helped Indian post the massive total at the scorecard.

West Indies closed the proceedings of the day at 31 for one.

Rajendra Chandrika (16) was dismissed by Shami.

Kraigg Brathwaite (11) and nightwatchman Devendra Bishoo (0) are at the crease and resume the proceedings on the third day of the match.

The second day was completely dominated  by Kohli and Ashiwn who played the opposition quite smoothly.

Hammering 24 boundaries, the Indian skipper scored 200 runs by playing 283 balls.

He became the first Indian captain to score a double ton overseas.

This was Ashwin's third century of his Test career and against the Caribbean side. He took 237 balls to reach the landmark.

He hit 12 boundaries in his 253-ball knock.

Gabriel (2-65) ended Kohli's dream run after the lunch as  the Indian skipper got a thick inside edge on to his stumps.

Devendra Bishoo (3-163) remained the top wicket taker for West Indies.
