Ray's 'Hero' Barun Chanda enacts main lead in new age crime thriller
Kolkata, Jan 29 (IBNS) About 40 years after being cast in the lead role in Ray's urban classic Seemabaddha, veteran actor Barun Chanda is cast in the main lead of a film again where he portrays the unconventional role of a criminologist.
"In Chorabali (quicksand) I play the hero again. After 40 years. I am happy with the way the climax is built up. Happy this film is being talked about by the media and audience get to know about it," Barun tells IBNS at the premiere of the film directed by young Subhrajit Mitra on Friday last..jpg)

"I am just stating that again I get to play hero in a film after Manikda's (Satyajit Ray) Seemabadhdha. No comparisons arise. But Chorabali, having a new age thriller feel, is a commendable work by a young director and must be backed by audiences in this age of thrillers," Barun says.
Barun's character reads the mindset of the criminals, those who roam around in society after committing a crime, and it is a new aspect in Bengali film.
Director Subhrajit, who defines the title of film as projecting the dark aspects of human mind and the attendant danger to such lustful vices, says a person of Barun Chanda's sophistication, erudition, poise, age, swagger and experience could only enact the role of his film's protagonist.
"It is a privilege for my film that I get to use him as my main lead after he got similar space in Seemabadhdha years back," he says.
Actor Tanusree Chakraborty, essaying the role of a female sleuth for the first time in her career as the on-screen assistant of Barun, says the film has a European thriller look and feel in narration and camera work.
Actor June Malia plays a news channel head in the flick.
Chorabali, produced by Macneil Movies, also stars Shataf Figar, Locket Chatterjee, Sayani Dutta and debutant Malabika Banerjee.
