ZEE5's mythological horror series 'Shwetkali' returns for a second season, set in a mist-covered North Bengal village
Kolkata/IBNS: ZEE5's mythological horror series Shwetkali returns for a second season on October 23, moving the story to a mist-covered village in North Bengal, the cast and crew said on Monday.
The seven-episode season leaves the Kharapani Mansion, the setting of the first season, for the fictional village of Megh-Jhuri, where folklore and hidden secrets form the backdrop of a new tale of fear and suspense.
Oindrila Sen returns as Urvi, a pregnant doctor who travels to the Roy Chowdhury estate in Megh-Jhuri expecting a peaceful family gathering.
Her visit turns disturbing when she encounters a village gripped by intense devotion and fear ahead of its annual festival dedicated to Guha Kali.
As the story unfolds, local folklore, a centuries-old curse and long-concealed secrets emerge beneath the village's religious traditions and rituals, drawing Urvi into a fresh web of danger.
"After three years, it was definitely challenging for me, though it was a very good experience with the entire cast and team," Sen said.
"I always wanted to be the centre of a horror story where someone is possessed, so that I can do things with the character," Surangana Bandyopadhyay said.
This time, she said, the character is possessed not by something negative but by a goddess, which made it a challenge to differentiate from her earlier roles.
Anindya Chatterjee, who plays the family's eldest son, said the role is far from his own personality and that he tried to portray a reserved, serious man.
Rajdeep Gupta, in his first Bangla ZEE5 project, said the cast had fun during the 12-day shoot and that his character is much like him in real life.
The cast includes Oindrila Sen, Surangana Bandyopadhyay, Ridhima Ghosh, Anindya Chatterjee, Rajdeep Gupta, Geetashree Roy and Saptarshi Maulik, among others.
With its shift in setting and a storyline rooted in mythology, rituals and supernatural suspense, Shwetkali 2 is set to premiere on October 23.
