Mekhla Dasgupta sings Surinder Music’s Puja song ‘Kaash Phooler Gondho’; Raja Chanda launches track in Kolkata

Kolkata/IBNS: Surinder Music unveiled its latest Bengali song, ‘Kaash Phooler Gondho’, sung by Mekhla Dasgupta, at an event on Tuesday, with film director Raja Chanda launching the song in the presence of the cast and crew.

Written and composed by Sreeraj Mitra, with a musical arrangement by Rocket Mondal, the song captures the mood of Durga Puja through the imagery of wild sugarcane (kaash phool), clear autumn skies and the anticipation of loved ones returning home for the festivities.

"We all have grown up listening to Adhunik Bangla Gaan (Modern Bengali Songs) released specially during Durga Pujo over the years. The melody of Kaash Phooler Gondho is very refreshing and has a very positive vibe in it. The experience of working with Sreeraj Mitra and Rocket Mondal once again has been wonderful", said singer Mekhla Dasgupta.

The song reflects the familiar sights and emotions associated with the season, from the swaying kaash phool and the scent of autumn to the traditional red-bordered white sarees worn during the festival. It brings together the excitement of Puja, the warmth of reunions and the joy of spending time with family and loved ones.

Lyricist & music composer, Sreeraj Mitra said, "Bengali basic songs are being released to add music and colour to the festive season. The formats may have changed over the years, but these 'Pujo Songs' are still released every year. The Pandals still reverberates with the sound of these musical numbers."

Presented by Surinder Singh and Nispal Singh and produced by Surinder Music, ‘Kaash Phooler Gondho’ is available on the label’s YouTube channel and other digital music platforms.

"Kaash Phooler Gondho, though uses modern soundscape, will transport the listeners back to the golden era of the 70s and early 80's. It was wonderful collaborating with Mekhla Dasgupta once again. She is an effortless singer with fabulous tonal quality, and we're hopeful that the audience will enjoy the song", Mitra added.

The music video features actors Sudipta Roy and Bipul Rishi and has been directed by Sumit Mondal, with cinematography and editing by Anupam Kundu. With its focus on the sights, sounds and emotions associated with autumn in Bengal, ‘Kaash Phooler Gondho’ joins the tradition of Bengali songs that mark the arrival of Durga Puja.
