Kolkata is known for sweet & melodies : Subha Mudgal

| | Dec 30, 2015, at 10:21 pm
Kolkata, Dec 30 (IBNS) In a glitzy evening marked by folk performances from across the country, music icons Subha Mudgal, Palash Sen and Shantanu Moitra, representing different genres, feted the SAREGAMAPA 2015 finalists.
Mudgal, the Mathura Nagarpati singer, talked about rich musical traditions of Bengal and the youngsters' knack for pure music.

Bengal was the place where the 'Kalakars' get their due place, where music find true appreciation, she said on the 'Sangeet Manch' on a glittering evening marked by fireworks display and dazzling laser work in the sprawling Eco park area of New Town.

"Bohut achha awaj, bohut achha sangeet (sweet and melodious sound, sweet and melodious lyrics), Kolkata is the place where I can get the vibe " the renowned classical vocalist explained.

Exclaiming she has got her family among the artiste fraternity and thousands of fans here, Subha said, "Already I have got a Bengali son, Jisshu Sengupta (the anchor of reality show)."

'Euphoria' lead singer Palash Sen, a national icon for contemporary music, said Kolkata's air made a poet from a singer.

"I love Bengali songs as they put up an imagery before the audience through the lyrics. Bengal is the place which blurs the dividing line between a western music rockstar and a poet," Palash, also an  actor, said.

Music composer Santanu Moitra said he was astounded on seeing the rich pool of talent among young contestants who could make it big in the competitive world of showbiz if nurtured properly.

The finalists represented three distinct gharanas of music 1) Classical/Semi-classical 2) Folk 3) Light music.
