I miss the charm of letter writing and red letter box : Abir Chatterjee
"There is a scene in the film where I am leaning against a red letter box. The ones dotting Kolkata streets couple of years back. I have also seen such boxes. Letter boxes bring back the romance of letter writing which is no more in vogue," Abir told IBNS at the film's promo here.
Abir, in this context, refers to the fast changing landscape of E M Bypass area and how much challenging it will be to capture the early 2000 era of certain parts of Kolkata if one wishes to shoot a film dating back to that era.
"If now there is a film set in the backdrop say even in 2006-07, it will be challenging to shoot any sequence along the bypass whose facade has changed so much in last few years, in fact every year. So visually reproducing the 80s era the way it was can be a daunting task which was well-executed as I feel," the Katmundu actor said.
"However, does people's emotion change, does basic instincts change? My character may time travel and find certain ambitions and norms of people in two different time zones as different, the benchmarks of success and certain parametres of life as different from the 80s and now. It has been treated intelligerntly and interestingly by the director," Abir said.
Abir, who connects himself with the 70s era, said he will love to travel back to that time.
"I was fed with the literature and cinema of 70s. So will perhaps be more in sync with that era," Abir, soaking in the success of two different genre Durga puja releases this season, said.
In Abby Sen, Abir's character goes back to 1980 on time machine for the coveted post in a upcoming new media house venture after chucking his present day channel jobs. He attains more success in the 80s with his out-of-box ideas, novel in those days, but gradually gets embroiled in a web of problems.
Director Atanu Ghosh said, "He is caught between two times and I have depicted the story in a back and forth fashion.
