First Look into the music of transgender-themed film "Conditions Apply"

Kolkata, June 5 (IBNS): Tollywood singer-actor Shilajit Majumdar and young singer Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury on Thursday recorded the music for debutant director Amitava Bhattacharya's upcoming film 'Conditions Apply'.

Produced by Vinayak Pictures, the recording took place at the Red Earth Dream Productions studio and the media was invited for a sneak preview into it.

"Onnorokom" music or a unique flavour marks the music of this film, says debutant music composer Chirantan Banerjee.

Indeed, the music poignantly reflects the sensitive issue broached by the film. 'Conditions Apply' captures the struggles of Chitrangada (Mumtaz Sorcar), a famous actress who identifies herself as "gender neutral". The music complements this theme, the physical, emotional and spiritual pains she goes through, the rejection she faces from a society that believes, "You are only a human being if you are male/female".

The song Dehadhin is penned by Akash Chakraborty and sung by Somlata. "It is a song of pathos, depression and confusion", said the singer.

She stated that she was drawn to the song because of the "ideas, creativity, newness" it exults. She enjoyed her overall experience of working with a team full of young people and is confident that the director will do his bit in presenting the emotions behind the song.

Shilajit, on singing Lukochuri, revealed how different an experience it was for him. He complimented the lyricist Akash on the powerful lyrics of the song and the composer Chirantan for composing a song packed with different genres portraying a range of emotions. He fondly sang the song as many times over as the media requested.

Finally, composer Chirantan Banerjee shared details of a song that might raise a few eyebrows. This song entitled Langta, a blend of four genres- an Arabian flavour, Heavy Metal, Hip Hop & Indian folk-  conveys the message of the film.

When asked about Dehadhin, he said that it seeks to connect the physical and the emotional, how a transgender remains partnerless and isolated.

The team of the film said the new approach taken by the film is backed by the music with its powerful lyrics, soulful tune and its newness in blending several genres.
