'Arjun Chakraborty was my trump card': Filmmaker Nandita Roy as Phool Pishi O Edward celebrates 50-day box office run

Phool Pishi O Edward, a Windows’ Production, completed its 50 days at the box office on Friday as the team celebrated the event at Nandan with cutting of cakes and a hall visit.

Director Nandita Roy addressing the media said: “Nowadays a film does not even run for two weeks at the theatres. It is our great achievement that even on the 50th day we have a full house. But Arjun Chakraborty was my trump card.”

Actor Arjun Chakraborty appeared quite emotional: “I am extremely proud of this team. Everyone has worked very hard and I hope we get to see the 100th day of Phool Pishi O Edward gracing the theatres.”

Members of Roy’s ‘winning team’ came forward to speak to the audience, their exuberance at the welcome extended apparent.

Actress Shyamoupti Mudli relayed her experience of ‘acting through facial expressions’ in her first film which was quite a ‘challenge’: “I am grateful to be able to work with Windows for my debut film and wholeheartedly thank the audience for showering this film with so much love.” Ananya Chatterjee commented on the message of the film being well received by the public along with its entertainment value.

Musician Joy Sarkar admitted: “There can be nothing more joyful than this moment for us. Friends and strangers alike have loved Phool Pishi O Edward. This is our reward.”

The hall visit saw the singers of the film, Pousali Banerjee and Sutirtha Chakraborty, entertaining the audience with live renditions of ‘Aam Pata Jam Pata’, ‘Moner Chabi re’ and ‘Launch Chole’.

Phool Pishi O Edward, released on May 29, is a Bengali mystery drama film where Phool Pishi returns to her ancestral town to attend a wedding of the once influential Nandi landlord family. When the head of the family suddenly dies before the rituals are complete, the family accepts the narrative of a natural death. Just then, Phool Pishi’s beloved cat Edward disappears into the shadowy corridors of the palace.
