Bangladesh raid uncovers bomb-making materials and 9,000 paper masks, one person arrested
Bangladesh police have recovered explosive materials, crude bomb-making equipment and 9,000 paper masks during a raid in South Keraniganj, media reports said.
A 30-year-old man, identified as Zahid Hasan Emon, has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to sources at Shyampur Model Police Station cited by the Dhaka Tribune, a crude bomb exploded in front of Jatrabari Police Station on September 19, prompting police to launch an investigation.
During the probe, police reportedly received information about Emon’s alleged involvement in the incident. He was arrested from the Baghapur area on Friday.
Based on information provided following his arrest, police recovered 1.5 kg of caustic soda and 1.6 kg of sulphur, which police said were used in making crude bombs.
They also seized 5 kg of marbles, 2 kg of 1-inch barbed nails, 20 pieces of red cellophane tape and 11 pieces of black cellophane tape allegedly used to wrap crude bombs, the Dhaka Tribune reported.
Police also recovered 9,000 paper masks packed in three cartons, 30 packets of elastic used to wear the masks, and a Jaipan-brand blender and jar allegedly used to grind materials for making crude bombs.
The investigation into the September 19 explosion and the alleged role of the arrested man is ongoing.
