Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh get a new ally as Delhi Capitals appoint Chaminda Vaas

New Delhi/IBNS: Former Sri Lankan cricketer Chaminda Vaas has been appointed as the fast bowling coach of Delhi Capitals for the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The Sri Lankan cricket legend will join Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh in the franchise's coaching setup.

Ganguly has been appointed head coach, while Yuvraj will serve as the assistant and batting coach. Delhi Capitals are yet to win an IPL title.

Vaas backs bowlers' autonomy

Speaking about his coaching philosophy ahead of his new assignment, Vaas said he believes in giving bowlers the freedom to develop their own plans while offering guidance based on his experience.

“I give a lot of freedom to the bowlers. Being a fast bowler, I played for so many years. I always believe that bowlers should come with their own plans. If they don't know, then I'm there to help them and share my experience, including field settings.

“But I always believe bowlers should know their strengths and their field settings. If they know all about these things, then, as coaches, we have to guide them and help them get to the next level,” he said.

Delhi Capitals' recent struggles

Delhi Capitals have experienced an inconsistent run in recent IPL seasons.

The team missed the playoffs in both 2025 and 2026, despite winning seven matches in each campaign.

Delhi's best IPL performance remains their runners-up finish in 2020, when they reached the final for the first time.

With no IPL title to their name and only one final appearance, the franchise will now look to Ganguly to help build a team capable of mounting a stronger title challenge.
