Pakistani militant killed in Kashmir's Sopore area

Srinagar/UNI: Security forces shot dead a suspected Pakistani militant of Lashkar-e-Taiba during a gun battle in Sopore sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday evening.

Police said two foreigners and a local militant escaped from the cordon.

They said the gunfight broke out during a cordon and a search operation which was launched at Panipora forest of Zaloora area by Police and Army's 22 Rashtriya Rifles following an input about militant presence.

"The CASO turned into a gun battle when hiding terrorists opened fire," a security official said.

Police said four militants were trapped in the area when the operation was launched.

Inspector-General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said one Pakistani militant of LeT was killed in the gun battle.

"As per the documents recovered from the killed Pakistani terrorist, he has been identified as Hanzalla of Lahore, Pakistan. One AK rifle, 05 magazines along with ammunition has been recovered," Kumar added.

" 2 FTs ( foreign terrorists) and one local terrorist escaped from the cordon. Search (is) going on," said he.
