Big boost for India's security: DRDO successfully tests advanced missile shield
India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully demonstrated a series of critical technologies that significantly strengthen the country's defence capabilities against a wide range of aerial and maritime threats.
In a major milestone, DRDO conducted three consecutive flight tests on June 10, 11 and 12, 2026, showcasing India's multi-layered defence capabilities against long-range ballistic missiles as well as its anti-ship strike capability at medium range.
The flight tests successfully validated the country's Multi-Layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system, with the interceptors accurately engaging and neutralising their designated targets.
According to DRDO, the systems have been designed and developed using advanced technologies to counter emerging missile threats and enhance India's strategic defence preparedness.
The successful trials place India among a select group of nations possessing Ballistic Missile Defence capabilities capable of engaging threats up to the level of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs).
In another significant achievement, DRDO successfully carried out the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR), demonstrating the country's growing indigenous capability in advanced naval weapon systems.
The flight tests were witnessed by senior officials from DRDO and the Indian Armed Forces, who hailed the achievements as a major boost to India's defence and deterrence capabilities.
