National Herald case: Rahul Gandhi leaves ED office after 9 hrs of interrogation; to appear again tomorrow

He will appear before the federal agency's office tomorrow again as some questions related to today's interrogation were not covered, media reports said.

The Waynad Lok Sabha MP left the ED office at around 9:40 pm. The last round of questions lasted five to ten minutes, media reports added.

ED served notices to Rahul Gandhi and his mother, Congress President, Sonia Gandhi after a trial court took note of an investigation by Income Tax Department against Young India Pvt Ltd.

Gandhi reached the ED office amid massive Congress protests.

Senior Congress leaders including party MPs were to march with Gandhi from the party office to the offices of the Enforcement Directorate, but the Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest march.

Congress leaders alleged that the questioning is part of the ruling  BJP's "vendetta politics".

The Congress leaders sat outside the barricades put by the police raising slogans against the interrogation after Gandhi went in.

Soon after, many leaders, including P Chidambaram, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhari, KC Venugopal, Deepender Hooda and Jairam Ramesh were detained and ferried to the police station on buses.

Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said Chidambaram had a fractured rib after being pushed by Delhi Police. while Venugopal was physically picked up and carried towards a waiting bus.

Another Congress leader Pramod Tiwari suffered head injuries after he was thrown on the road,  Surjewala added.
