Nagpur joyride turns fatal: Two teenagers killed, father booked for letting minor drive

The accident took place in the Kalamna area at around 5:30 am.

Police have since registered a case against the father of the 17-year-old who was allegedly driving the car, accusing him of allowing his minor son to drive the vehicle.

Teenagers went for drive while waiting for friend

The three friends had planned to attend the birthday celebration of a friend identified as Jai.

They had left home early in the morning, but Jai was reportedly running late. While waiting for him, the teenagers decided to take a short drive around the area.

The group comprised Mihir Behar, 17, Bhaumik Larokar, 16, and Sagar Melwani, 17.

Car crashes into stationary truck

According to police, the car was allegedly being driven at high speed when Mihir lost control.

The vehicle slammed into the rear of a stationary truck, causing severe damage.

Bhaumik, who was seated in the front passenger seat, died at the spot. Sagar, who was travelling in the rear, also succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Mihir survived the crash but sustained serious injuries. He was taken to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Father booked for allowing minor to drive

The car belonged to Mihir's father, Anand Behar.

Police initially registered a case of accidental death following the crash. They have now also registered a case against Anand Behar for allegedly permitting his minor son to drive the vehicle.

The case has brought renewed attention to the dangers of allowing underage drivers access to motor vehicles and the legal consequences that vehicle owners may face when minors are permitted to drive.

Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
