Dino Morea questioned for 6 hours in Rs 65 crore Mithi River desilting case

Bollywood actor Dino Morea was questioned by the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on Friday in connection with the alleged Rs 65.54-crore Mithi River desilting case.

This was the second time Morea has been questioned in the case.

He and his brother Santino Rocco Morea were previously questioned by the EOW in May 2025.

Police officials said investigators summoned Morea after examining phone records indicating his contact with people linked to the case.

The probe is examining alleged financial irregularities in contracts related to the desilting of the Mithi River.

What is the Mithi River case?

The investigation centres on alleged irregularities in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Mithi River desilting project, including allegations of inflated tenders, manipulated records and corrupt practices.

According to investigators, the alleged irregularities resulted in a wrongful loss of around Rs 65.54 crore to the civic body.

The case involves contractors, intermediaries, machinery suppliers and BMC officials.

Why is Dino Morea's name in the probe?

Morea's name came under scrutiny after investigators examined phone records involving people connected to the case.

Police are also looking into financial transactions between Morea's associates and Ketan Kadam, one of the key accused in the case.

Investigators are examining the nature of these dealings and whether they have any connection to the alleged irregularities under investigation.

Morea has not been publicly established as responsible for the alleged scam merely by being questioned, and the investigation is ongoing.

ED also probing money-laundering angle

The case has also drawn the attention of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which is investigating the alleged proceeds of crime under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The ED had previously searched premises linked to Morea and others as part of its probe and questioned the actor over transactions and his alleged links to people under investigation.

Probe into BMC contracts continues

The EOW investigation is examining how contracts for Mithi River desilting were awarded and how specialised machinery was procured and used.

Investigators have alleged that certain contractors and intermediaries colluded with officials and machinery suppliers, while the police continue to examine the financial trail and the roles of individuals connected to the project.

The investigation remains ongoing, with Morea potentially facing further questioning depending on the findings.
