78.06 pct turnout in first phase of Assam polls
Guwahati, Apr 4 (IBNS) : High turnout was recorded in first phase of polling in 65 assembly constituencies in Assam on Monday.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI) report, around 78.06 percent voters turnout was recorded in first phase poll in the state till 5 PM.
In last assembly election, the total turnout was 75.94 percent and in Lok Sabha polls in 2014, it was 80.21 percent.
The first phase poll was held in 15 constituencies in Barak Valley and 50 in Brahmaputra Valley region.
About 78.06 percent out of 95,11,732 voters of the 65 constituencies will decide fate of 539 candidates including Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate Sarbananda Sonowal, AGP president Atul Bora.
The second phase poll will be held in rest 61 constituencies in the state on April 11.
On the other hand, the BJP hope to capture maximum seats in the first phase poll after reflecting high turnout.
“People wants change this time and we hope the BJP alliance will form the next government in the state,” Sarbananda Sonowal said.
