187 abduction cases reported along Assam-Meghalaya border: Assam govt

Guwahati, Dec 7 (IBNS): A total of 187 abduction cases have been reported in the two Assam bordering districts along the Assam-Meghalaya border in this year so far, the state government said on Monday.
Replied in a question, Assam Agriculture minister Rockybul Husain said on behalf of Assam CM Tarun Gogoi who also hold the state home department in the floor of Assam assembly, that some unlawful activities are reportedly taking place in Assam-Meghalaya border area from Goalpara district to Dhubri district.
 
The minister said that, such activities are mostly done by miscreants of Meghalaya.
 
“In this year a total of 49 abduction cases reported in South Salmara police district and 138 in Goalpara district,” the minister said.
 
“Assam government has already requested to Meghalaya government to take proactive and strong steps against the criminal activities so as to bring back normalcy, peace and tranguillity among the people living in both side of the bordering districts of Assam and Meghalaya. Meetings have been held between civil and police counterparts of bordering districts of Assam and Meghalaya and public leaders to ensure safety of general public and Assam traders who go towards Meghalaya side,” Rockybul Hussain said.
 
The minister also said that, some outfit groups including ULFA, NDFB, KLO, SIMI are active along the bordering areas of Assam and Meghalaya.
