Russia's Investigative Committee has stated the explosion as a terrorist attack.

The explosion took place in a few miles away from President Vladimir Putin, who was also in the city at that moment.

Though there have been no claims by any terrorist group yet, the President has ensured that investigations will be conducted.

During the rescue operation, makeshift bomb have been deactivated at metro station in St. Petersburg, reports said.
