Paris, Apr 15 (IBNS): Firefighters are working to put out a massive fire at the famous Notre-Dame cathedral here in the French capital.

Media reports said the cause of the fire, which caught on Monday afternoon, has not been ascertained yet.

"A terrible fire has broken out at the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris," Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo wrote on Twitter and asked people to respect the security cordon around the 850-year-old church.

Fire services personnel have cordoned off the area while thick plumes of smoke are seen emanating from the top of the Gothic-architecture building.
