Moscow, Apr 16 (Sputnik/UNI) The French heritage foundation has launched a fundraising campaign to help rebuild the landmark Notre Dame cathedral that was hit by major blaze.

The massive fire broke out at Notre Dame on Monday, causing the collapse of the cathedral's spire and the destruction of its roof structure. Speaking from the scene, French President Emmanuel Macron described the incident as a "terrible tragedy" and promised to rebuild the 850-year-old church.

On the heritage foundation website, Internet users are invited to make a single donation of 50, 100, 200 and 500 euros ($565) or to set any other amount they wish to contribute.

They can also choose to make a monthly donation of 10, 20, 50 or 100 euros, or any other sum.
