Bangkok, Jun 25 (IBNS): A rescue operation is underway in northern Thailand's Chiang Rai province, where a boys  football team is feared to be trapped inside a cave, reports said on Monday.

The football team consists of players aged between 11 and 16.

They are believed to have entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave on Saturday afternoon and apparently got trapped after heavy rains inundated a stream at the attraction's entrance.

According to a local news outlet, one must cross the stream in order to gain access to the cave's entrance.

The group is led by their 25-year-old coach.

Thailand's Defence Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan said that divers from Underwater Demolition Assault Unit of the Royal Thai Navy have been deployed to search and rescue the missing individuals.
