Dubai set for key changes in April 2026 across banking, travel, and residency
Dubai is preparing to roll out a series of significant changes from April 2026, impacting banking security, school operations, air travel, and residency rules as part of broader policy updates across the emirate.
Banks in the United Arab Emirates are set to complete the phased removal of one-time passwords (OTPs) sent via SMS and email for high-value transactions.
The move, initiated in July 2025 under the Central Bank of the UAE, will now be fully enforced, with customers required to verify transactions through their banking apps.
The shift is aimed at enhancing digital security and reducing fraud risks in online payments and QR-based transactions.
Schools to resume in-person classes
Students across Dubai’s schools and universities, who have been attending classes remotely since March 23, are expected to return to campuses from April 3.
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority has confirmed that distance learning will continue until then, with authorities monitoring the situation on a weekly basis.
Flights gradually returning
Air travel to Dubai is also set to stabilise, with several international airlines planning to resume operations to Dubai International Airport after recent regional disruptions.
Air France is expected to restart flights from April 2, while Turkish Airlines is aiming to resume services after suspending operations until the end of March. However, schedules remain subject to change, and travellers are advised to check with airlines before departure.
Temporary residency relaxation ends
A temporary rule that allowed residents with expired permits to re-enter the UAE without a new entry permit will expire on March 31, 2026.
From April 1, standard residency regulations will be reinstated, requiring valid visas and documentation for entry.
The latest measures underline Dubai’s push to strengthen financial security systems, restore normalcy in education and travel, and streamline residency processes.
Authorities have urged residents and travellers to stay informed and prepare for the upcoming transitions.
