Ceasefire efforts continue in Sudan as truces remain unsuccessful

| @indiablooms | May 06, 2023, at 10:28 am

Khartoum/Sudan: The Sudanese military announced that it had dispatched representatives to Saudi Arabia to negotiate the specifics of a ceasefire that is currently in the process of being prolonged with its paramilitary adversaries, on Friday.

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the chief of the regular Sudanese army, had expressed his support for a seven-day ceasefire that was declared by South Sudan on Wednesday, reported AFP.

In the early hours of Friday, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces announced that they were prolonging a previous truce, which had been negotiated under the auspices of the US-Saudi mediation, by an additional three days.

Despite numerous agreements on truces since the outbreak of hostilities between the rival security forces on April 15th, none of them have been observed.
