Bangladesh: RAB officials arrest six Ansar al-Islam terrorists

Dhaka/IBNS:  Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested six alleged terrorists belonging to banned group Ansar al-Islam from Dhaka, Gazipur, and Satkhira areas of Bangladesh, media reports said.

RAB detained them while conducting drives in Gazipur, Uttara in Dhaka, and Shyamnagar in Satkhira, Mozammel Haque, commanding officer (CO) of RAB 4 was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.

The detained persons were identified as Shofikul Islam, 21; Ilias Haqlader, 32; Ikramul Islam, 21; Amir Hossain, 26; Shipon Mir, 33; and Md Waliullah, 25.  

Books, leaflets, laptops, and phones containing information relating to the banned Ansar al- Islam were recovered by the security officials.

Mozammel Haque told the newspaper: “The law enforcers nabbed the six criminals in Uttara as they were planning to conduct an attack.”
