After accusing WHO of siding with China over COVID-19, Donald Trump talks to Xi Jinping

Washington/IBNS: After accusing the World Health Organisation (WHO) of siding with China over COVID-19, US President Donald Trump on Friday held a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping and stated the two countries were working closely to fight the deadly Novel Coronavirus.

Trump tweeted, "Just finished a very good conversation with President Xi of China. Discussed in great detail the CoronaVirus that is ravaging large parts of our Planet. China has been through much & has developed a strong understanding of the Virus. We are working closely together. Much respect!"

Earlier in response to a question on allegations by Republican Senator Marco Rubio that the WHO was siding with China, Trump said as quoted by media, "It (WHO) has been very very much sided with China. A lot of people are not happy about it."

Though China's Wuhan was the epicentre of the deadly virus, the country has recovered after months of lockdown.

However in the last two days, fresh reports of positive Coronavirus cases have emerged making people fearful of a second wave of the virus.

Mainland China has reported its first locally transmitted and 54 imported Coronavirus cases in three days forcing Beijing to ask the airlines to reduce international flights.

In the United States, the death toll has crossed 1,000.

The total number of global cases has crossed 500,000 including more than 20,000 deaths.
