2 killed in shelling in Libya's Tripoli
Tripoli/Xinhua/UNI: Shelling has killed two people in south of the capital Tripoli, which is under armed conflict between the UN-backed government and the eastern-based army, said a statement on Sunday.
"The field hospital of Salah Addin (southern Tripoli) received two bodies of civilians killed by indiscriminate shelling that hit a house in the area," Fawzi Onis, spokesman of the Health Ministry of Libya's UN-backed government, said in a statement.
The forces of the UN-backed government accused the rival eastern-based army of the shelling. However, the eastern-based army did not comment on the incident so far.
Since early April, Tripoli and western Libya in general has been witnessing violent armed conflict between the UN-backed government and the eastern-based army, which is trying to take over the city and topple the UN-backed government.
The fighting has claimed thousands of lives and injured many others. Also, hundreds of thousands of civilians were forced to flee their homes away from the violence.
Libya has been suffering a state of insecurity and chaos ever since the fall of the regime of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
