Potol Kumar Gaanwala unifies rural-urban audience divide in Bengal, gets high TRP

Kolkata, Jan 29 (IBNS) The makers of Potol Kumar Gaanwala,, the story about the journey of a common girl with the zeal to realise her dreams of a singer, organised a media interaction one month after its telecast already made it hugely popular in Bengali households for seven days in a week virtually leaving behind several other fiction shows.

"The show  has unified both urban and rural Bengal audiences and continues to leave other shows far behind," its director  Swarno tells IBNS on location at Bharat Laxmi studio where an idyllic, rural setting has been recreated.

"We are happy the way the simple story line about the journey of the child protagonist, from Simultali to Kolkata to pursue the  dreams of a celebrated singer has got so many takers from across different segments of audiences and already become a household name," Swarno says.

The show which started with the highest BARC rate continued to leave all other show behind it as the Bengali TV audience could identify Potol a.k.a Poteshwari with all those strugglers who keep chasing their dreams in spite of all difficulties, said the makers.

According to the storyline, the little girl, a musical prodigy with a great natural talent lives in the village with her mother and helps her meet ends by doing odd jobs for her uncle and singing at the local temple.

From her mother she learns the truth that her estranged father is alive and a very established singer himself.

As her mother feels that if she had been a boy, it would have been easier getting her father’s acceptance, Potol decised to try her luck once her mother passes away by embarking on the uncertain journey.

"The twists and turns and the simple story line is hooking the audience and the natural performance by the entire cast,"screenplay writer Sahana claims.

Produced by Shree Venkatesh Films, the producers of hit shows like Maa, Bojhena Shey Bojhena, Durga and Behula, the serial is being telecast on Star Jalsha.
