UP civic poll result comes out, BJP takes early lead
Lucknow, Dec 1 (IBNS): Bringing a relief to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took an early lead in the civic poll of the state, media reports said.
The counting of the votes for the election, which took place on Nov 22, 26 and 29, has started this morning.
The overall voter turnout was 52.4% in the mayoral election this year.
In 2012, the BJP bagged 10 out of 12 mayoral seats in the state.
The 2017 civic poll is the first biggest challenge for Adityanath and the BJP after registering an overwhelming victory in the Assembly election early in 2017.
The BJP, outclassing the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance, won over 325 out of 403 seats in the Assembly election 2017.
