Kolkata/IBNS: Three members of a family were found dead in a hotel in Kolkata's downtown New Market area on Tuesday morning, reports said.

According to reports, the trio- Sushil Kumar Banshal, his wife Chhanda Devi Banshal and their son Sumit Kumar Banshal, who were the residents of Siliguri in north Bengal, had checked into the hotel near Esplanade area on Sunday and they were scheduled to check out on Monday Tuesday morning.

After getting no response from them, hotel authority had called in the police on Tuesday morning and cops from New Market Police Station recovered the three bodies.

Police officials said that a bottle of poison and a suicide note were recovered from the hotel room.

"Prima facie indicates that the debt-ridden family committed suicide by consuming poison, though the exact matter will be clear following an investigation," a city police official said.

The bodies have been sent for autopsy while forensic experts of the Kolkata Police have reached the scene to collect samples, officials said.
