Suspected NSCN-K and ULFA (I) militants torch 9 oil tankers at Jagun along Arunachal Pradesh border

Guwahati, Jan 16 (IBNS): At least 9 oil tankers were set ablaze by an armed militant group of banned outfit NSCN-K and ULFA (I) in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district along with Arunachal Pradesh border on Tuesday evening.

According to the reports, the incident was took place at Namsik area near Namphai Reserve Forest in Jagun in the Upper Assam district around 532 km from Guwahati at around 4-55 pm.

The oil tankers laden with oil and natural gas were coming from Kharsang in Arunachal Pradesh heading towards Digboi.

Following the incident, troops of Assam police and Assam Rifles had rushed to the area and launched massive operation against the militants.

Tinsukia district SP Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta said that, suspected militants of NSCN-K and ULFA (I) had torched the oil tankers.

Meanwhile, Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay said that, security has been beefed up across the state ahead of Republic Day celebration.
