New Delhi, Jan 28 (IBNS) A list of the first 20 smart cities will be announced by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today, according to reports.

As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plan, the incumbent government will build 100 smart cities in India.

The smart cities will have all the basic amenities apart from having dedicated IT connectivity.

Speaking on urban development, Naidu was quoted as saying by IBN Live: "It was the need of the hour with 'Young India' becoming more and more aspirational."

Naidu also emphasized on the need of sustainable development. He said, "Cities should be water positive through water harvesting, recycling and reuse of water, energy positive with each household resorting to renewable sources of energy, and community positive facilitating interactive neighbourhoods."
