SC rejects victim's plea against Peepli Live co-director Farooqui's acquittal
New Delhi, Jan 19 (IBNS): Defending the Delhi High Court's verdict, the Supreme Court on Friday rejected a plea made by an alleged rape victim against Peepli Live co-director Mahmood Farooqui's acquittal in a sexual assault case, media reports said.
The victim, a US woman, had moved the top court to plead against the judgement passed by the High Court.
The apex court said this is a case where the woman bringing the charges and Farooqui were in a relationship.
The Delhi HC had set aside the trial court's verdict of seven years imprisonment of Farooqui for allegedly raping the US woman.
While passing the verdict, the HC had made an interesting comment on the rape case. It said a "soft no" is sometimes a "yes" for the other person to get involve in a sexual act.
The HC even took note of the fact that the victim was late in filing the complaint.
On July 30, 2016, a trail court had found the co-director guilty in the case.
The woman is a student at the Columbia University in New York and had meet the accused in Varanasi during her research work. She had alleged that she was raped by Farooqui at his Sukhdev Vihar residence in Delhi on March 28, 2015, in a drunken state after a party.
