Restrictions in Srinagar, no Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid

| | Dec 08, 2017, at 11:04 pm

Srinagar, Dec 8 (IBNS) : Authorities in Kashmir have put a bar on holding  congregational Friday prayers at the Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar as a preventive measure against anti-US protests on Jerusalem decision.

According to reports, all gates of Jamia Masjid were locked by government forces while all roads leading to the historic mosque were blocked and large number of forces were deployed outside the mosque

Earlier,  curfew was  imposed in Nowhatta, Safa Kadal and MR Gunj in Downtown Srinagar to prevent people from assembling at the mosque.

On Thursday evening, Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention.

While slamming the authorities,  Mirwaiz has accused the authorities of resorting to  ‘Shameful Operation Procedure’.

“Once again the authoritarian regime has resorted to its SOP #ShamefulOperatingProcedure of imposing restrictions and disallowing Muslims by force from offerings Friday prayers at #JamaMasjd and peacefully expressing their resentment against the US decision on #AQudsAlSharief,” Mirwaiz said in a tweet.

The joint Resistance Leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik has called for peaceful protests after Friday prayers against the US move to declare Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
