Srinagar/UNI: Police on Sunday arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband from him in the summer capital, Srinagar.

A police spokesperson said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established at Red Cross Road Maisuma in Srinagar.
He said police intercepted a person at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 50 grams of charas from him. “The accused, identified as Zahoor Ahmad Dar, was immediately taken into custody and shifted to Police Station Maisuma,” he said.

He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Maisuma and further investigation has been initiated.

“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” he said.

“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
