Guwahati, Feb 9 (IBNS): It comes a major relief to the Election Commission, after the Naga outfit NSCN (IM) said the organization will not force to boycott election.

The Naga outfit group had earlier called for boycotting the Nagaland assembly polls scheduled on Feb 27 next.

Despite the call for election boycott, the mainstream political parties decided to defy the boycott diktat and contested the election as 256 candidates from BJP, Congress, Naga People’s Front (NPF), National Democratic Political Party (NDPP), National People's Party (NPP) and few other parties had filed their nomination papers to ensure the polls.

After scrutiny of the nomination papers, 227 nominations were found valid.

In a recent statement, NSCN (IM) said that, they will not force the people of Nagaland to boycott the upcoming election.

“This clarification is issued regarding the directive on January 30 pertaining to the call of the people for ‘Solution and not Election’. To clear any ambiguity about the directive, the Naga Army was and is responding to the wishes of the people and will continue to do so. The wish of the people is supreme and the Naga Army will respect their decision,” NSCN (IM) said in the statement.

The Naga outfit group also directed its officers and personnel to control and discipline for non-interference in any electioneering matter, processes.

“The Naga Army will never use force or coercion to boycott election,” NSCN (IM) said in the statement.

Earlier, NSCN (IM) warned the political parties that, they will take stern act against the people those have been found defying the decision of the Naga people.
