Bhubaneswar/UNI: Angry villagers  stoned to death  a Maoist cadre at Janturai village under Papermetla police limits in Malkangiri district yesterday.

The Maoists, however, set fire to at least 15 houses  in the village in a retaliatory action forcing the  authority to rush the forces to the  village to  provide  security to the  villagers.

Sources  said two Maoists riding on a motor bike  terrorized the  the villagers and warned them not to celebrate the  Republic Day celebration.

The villagers suddenly started pelting stones at the  Maoists in which  one was killed  on the  spot and  other was seriously injured and overpowered by the villagers.

After the  incident, the Maoists in a retaliatory action set ablaze few houses in the village. Security after the incident was beefed up to prevent  further attacks by the Red rebels in the village.
