Kolkata/IBNS: A 24-year-old woman was booked for allegedly harassing and misbehaving with policemen when her cab was stopped at a checkpoint for 'compulsory' questioning during coronavirus lockdown in Kolkata's satellite town Salt Lake on Wednesday, officials said.

According to reports, during a routine checking, police personnel stopped an app-cab at Salt Lake PNB More area under Bidhannagar North Police Station limits at around 12:30 pm.

When cops were questioning its driver and passengers about their journey's origin, destination and purpose, the woman suddenly started shouting at policemen and used abusive languages against them.

After getting out of the cab, she reportedly spat on Sub-Inspector (SI) Suman Bhattacharya, who was the in-charge of the naka checkpoint, and licked his uniform.

Following the incident, police detained the woman, who was identified as Sharmistha Debnath, her friend-cum-co-passenger Nirmal Valmiki (30) and cab driver Javed Khan (36) while the app-cab has been reportedly been seized.

As a precautionary measure against the spread of novel coronavirus, which have already claimed 11 lives in India, the entire country has been undergoing a three-week complete lockdown till Apr 14 midnight.

Following the Centre's advisory to strictly enforce Covid-19 lockdown, police have been continuously patrolling and conducting naka checking across Kolkata as well as entire West Bengal, and taking legal actions against violators.
