Bengaluru, May 11 (IBNS) The Karnataka High Court will give its verdict on Monday on the appeal by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa against her conviction in a disproportionate assets case.

Jayalalitha, the head of the ruling AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, was found by a trial court in September last year guilty of acculating assets worth Rs. 54 crore disproportionate to her known sources of income during her tenure.

The court had sentenced her to four years in jail and fined her Rs. 100 crore.

She has been on bail for eight months.

As a result of the verdict she was also disqualified as a lawmaker and had to step down as chief minister.

If Jayalalitha is is acquitted by the High Court, she could return to become chief minister again. If the conviction is upheld, she would have to go to jail at least till she gets any relief from the Supreme Court.
